# 6 Stolen moments - in your car.

Time to read, time to write in my journal, time to write in my day timer, time to......

These may be just a few of the simple pleasures that you find yourself not getting too. It can be difficult to find even little slots of time, outside of nap time for the kids, for these. So here is an idea:
  • always have a book, magazine, your day timer, journal etc. packed with you when you are in your car.
  • keep in your car bottled water and some snacks (for you)
  • a throw or small cushion
  •  have a place in mind to drive to that you know is relaxing.
My little ones are still young enough that they will often fall asleep while we are on route in the car. When this happens, I sometime see it as an opportunity to steal myself away.

  • Drive to and park at a place that you will enjoy just "being". Instead of viewing your car as a tool to get you from point A to Point B in order to complete all of your tasks, think of it as your home away from home.
  • No matter where you drive to, enjoy the time, relax, and absorb the splendour of your surroundings.

My favourite place is a local beach. With both babies asleep in the back I will drive to the beach, find the best parking place to view the ocean, roll down the windows and breathe in the fresh, salty sea air.  Depending on how I feel I may take out a book and pick up where I last left off, jot down a few things in my journal, or just simply put my head back (against that comfy cushion) and allow my mind to just be.

Sometimes we are so goal oriented that we simply have to learn to drop that mindset and live in the moment. To help yourself do just that, take in your surroundings - use your senses. At the beach I love watching the dogs leading their owners around the logs, and up and down the sandy kelp-laden beach. The sound of the waves is music to my ears, as are the cries of the gulls sailing on the breeze.

Your "place' will no doubt be different than mine, yet similar - a place to just be for a  few stolen moments.
