#27 Purify Your Space - NASA Recommends...

Peace Lily
...Plants.

Have you ever heard of an Areca Palm or a Lady Palm? Well, these are both hardy plants that will do wonders for your space. Both of them have unique purifying qualities; in fact NASA has rated them both 8.5 in a study they conducted on the top ten air purifying plants.

Incorporating these plants into your home or office, will add beauty and elegance while improving your well-being. You see, during the dry seasons both of these plants are known to keep the air moist - much like a humidifier - and especially important is their ability to remove toxins, such as carbon dioxide, benzene, trichloroethylene, and ammonia, to name a few. Did you know that research has shown indoor air to be 30 percent more polluted than outdoor air? This is especially true during the winter months when our windows are more likely to be closed. Both of these plants are hardy and are proven to be pest resistant so you don't need to be especially proficient at caring for plants.

Another beneficial plant, somewhat smaller, is the Peace Lily. Also recommended by NASA, the Peace Lily is known to remove mold spores in addition to formaldehyde and trichloroethylene. This makes it a great plant to place in the bathroom or laundry room.

Take a look around, what you don't see in your home may be even more important than what you do see.  Could your office use a spruce up? Is the air quality less than desirable? How about your home? You cook, sleep, play, unwind, and work in it - it is your castle, your oasis.

Since we spend so much time indoors it is especially important to have fresh, clean air. So take this simple step and bring nature indoors.  Decorate your space with a purifying plant. After all, a healthy space equals a happy place!

Check in with your local nurseries, they should carry most of these plants.  One that we frequent is Marigold Nurseries.
